The club, which was started by a husband and wife in September 1983, now has more than 110 members.

Founders Tony Sykes and his wife Anne decided that the time had come to try to get a little fitter.

They came up with an idea to form a club to promote fitness and fun while offering companionship and safety.

Tony, who had been a smoker and enjoyed a couple of pints in the evening, went from struggling to run the shortest distances to completing the first ever Leeds-Bradford 10 mile run.

The running club now meets at Dewsbury Sports Centre every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.45pm.

It also organises the popular Dewsbury 10k race.

Club members will meet at the Leggers Inn, Savile Town Wharf, on Thursday to celebrate the milestone.
