Dogs turned up dressed as superheroes, cars, princesses and even a married couple at the Yorkshire Rose Dog Show on Sunday, and organiser Kathy Hirst said the event, now in its fifth year, was more popular than ever!

She added: “We believe between 4,500 and 5,000 people came to the show – I just want to thank everybody who turned up on the day and everyone who volunteered to help us. We are already planning for next year’s event!”

As usual, the highlight of the day was the costume contest, and the winner was Joe Bell as the Stig with James May the dog!

Kathy said: “Some of the costumes in the contest really had to be seen to be believed. Most of them were home-made and people put so much effort into them!”

The event at the country park in Birstall is believed to have raised in the region of £2,500 for the Birkenshaw-based Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue.
