Anthony Jennings was a talented footballer who played for some of the district’s best sides. In his later years ‘Jeno’ became manager and club secretary of Overthorpe Sports Club.

A well-loved character in Thornhill and beyond, he died aged 64 in October last year. His family decided the cash collected at his funeral should be used for the benefit of junior footballers at Overthorpe Sports Club.

Jason Jennings presented a cheque for £1,300 to club stalwart Paul Brook.

Mr Jennings’ daughter Jayne and other members of his family were also there along with Rod Clifford, treasurer at Overthorpe.

Mr Jennings’ brother, Edward, said: “The family were totally overwhelmed by the generosity of friends near and far following Anthony’s death. The money raised proves that the community spirit is alive and well in Thornhill, the village which will always be the spiritual home of the Jennings family far and wide”.

The family also thanked Thornhill Trojans ARLFC for their contribution.
