Dream come true as Herbie signs for the Terriers

Meet the schoolboy who has become Huddersfield Town’s latest signing.

Herbie Spencer may only be eight years old, but his skills have already got him noticed by some of the biggest football clubs in the country.

Having attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City, Herbie signed for his beloved Terriers and joined the youth ranks of the Championship club.

The football mad youngster from Howden Clough signed a one-year deal at an introductory evening at the club’s Canalside training complex on Tuesday.

His mum, Ursula, said: “He trained at a few clubs and trained with Manchester United for the past year.

“He went to Man City and didn’t really enjoy it, but he has always really enjoyed training with Huddersfield.

“We received a letter over a month ago telling us he was being offered a year-long
contract.

“He is so excited to be joining the club he supports.”

Herbie has registered for the Terriers’ Under 9s team and will be eligible to play games for the club.

His schedule will including training three times a week and a match once a week.

Ursula said: “Herbie’s been with the club since he was five years old and they’ve been really good to him.

“The coaches make a real effort with all the lads and even the ones who come in to work with the kids make an effort to know all their names.

“They have gone a long way with us and being life-long Huddersfield Town fans, it was a no brainer really.

“It is a dream come true.”
