But jurors ruled Mohammed Karani was responsible for his empty van rolling down a hill, crushing Simran Ahmed and fracturing the skull of her 10-year-old daughter.

He was accused of not pulling the handbrake on properly and not turning the wheel towards the curb when he parked his van on the steep hill in Dewsbury last May.

Jurors at Leeds Crown Court found the 44-year-old guilty of causing death by careless driving after a three-day hearing this week.

He will be sentenced next month.
