Drug importers face big fines

TWO men will have to repay thousands of pounds after being convicted of importing Class-B drugs into the UK.

Lee Harris, 30, of Overthorpe Avenue, Thornhill, and 56-year-old Christopher Harris, of Nibshaw Road, Gomersal, were convicted in July 2009 of importing over £500,000 of amphetamine into the country.

They received sentences of four years and 10 months respectively, but will now have to repay money under the proceeds of crime act.

A confiscation order requires that Lee Harris repays £25,155 within six months, or he will face a further 15 month jail term. A similar order was placed on Christopher Harris, who has to repay £750 or face 28 days in prison.
