Earlsheaton Technology College becomes Manor Croft Academy

The secondary school in Old Bank Road will now be known as Manor Croft Academy.

The name was chosen by students because of its local connections.

Principal Hayley Clacy said: “This is a very exciting time for the students and teachers here at the school.

“In preparation for the conversion we have been building a committed team to ensure that we continue to raise standards and create a local school where students are happy, successful and fully prepared for adult life.”

The school achieved its best ever GCSE results this year with an 11 per cent rise in pupils meeting a national standards.

It meant the number of students achieving five A* to C grades including English and Maths to 44 per cent.

The school had been placed in special measures in January 2012, with an interim executive board put in place to oversee its running.

But its conversion to an academy means Manor Croft is no longer in special measures.

Outgoing board chairman John Broadhead said: “Strong leadership and the hard work of staff and students have put the school on the road to recovery.

“I am confident that Academy status under School Partnership Trust Academies’s sponsorship will reinforce this improvement and will produce a school that its community can take great pride in.”

SPTA chief executive Sir Paul Edwards added: “We are delighted to welcome Earlsheaton Technology College, now Manor Croft Academy, into the SPTA.

“Our commitment to the academy is to deliver an excellent quality of learning within the academy and its wider community, as well as establish it into an institution with high standards and expectations.”
