East Bierley golfers raise for children’s charity

Cash was raised for the Newlife Foundation for Children at various events throughout the year. These included a golf day in June, when 80 punters played at the green, which owners donated for the day.

The charity offers skilled nursing and practical help to babies, children and young people who have a disability or a life-limiting or terminal illness.

Chairwoman of the club’s charity fundraising committee Jan Kudelnitzky said: “We chose Newlife Foundation because we know of the important role that it can play in supporting families who face many challenges in caring for a child with a disability or life-limiting illness.

“We know that the money raised will be used locally and we hope that through our efforts more families will become aware of the work of the Foundation and feel motivated to apply to it for support.”

Additional support for the events at the South View Road club was given by members, local organisations and shops, who sponsored tees and donated prizes.

The the June event, the club was sponsored by Park House Healthcare and Essential Healthcare Solutions, both based at the Whitehall 26 Business Park, and represented by Steve Goddard.

Club members Gavin Moorhouse and Eric Smith were just two of the generous players.

Newlife fundraisng events manager Philippa Gregory said: “Every day across the UK more babies, children andyoung people become disabled or are diagnosed with a life-limiting condition or as being terminally ill.

“We welcome direct contact from families supported by their local health professional. The support that we receive from events such as that organised by East Bierley Golf Club are vital to our work.

“We are very appreciative of their support and grateful for their valuable contribution.”

The Newlife Foundation’s work commonly helps those who have birth defect conditions and malformations, premature birth-related conditions, cancer, acquired disorders (which develop after birth), serious infections or have had accidents.
