Eat, drink and be merry at festival

Bread and Butter do the rounds of the stalls at last year's Homemade Festival

Dewsbury will play host to its second Homemade Festival next Saturday, November 9, when more than 40 food, drink, arts, crafts and gift stalls, as well as free cookery demos and craft workshops, will descend in and around the Town Hall and market.

Last year more than 4,000 people attended the first event and this year’s festival again promises lots of things to see and do.

There will be entertainment for all the family with children’s workshops, live music and street theatre.

Tasty treats on offer will include regional and international cuisine from cookies and chocolate to ostrich and kangaroo. Drinkers are also in for a treat with local cider and beer at the Bier Huis real ale tasting.

Expert chef, Pam Mollan from Your Secret Gourmet will be demonstrating how to make butterbean and chorizo stew.

There will also be exclusive arts, crafts and gift stalls with unusual wares including traditional woollen blankets made from recycled Huddersfield yarn, or hand-crafted jewellery created from broken skateboards.

Workshops in textile jewellery making, gift wrapping and knitting will keep crafty adults busy.

While children will have the opportunity to create light-catchers, paper jewellery and musical instruments with fairandfunky. They can then use their instruments to accompany The Moot, one of the performers booked to provide live outdoor music throughout the day.

Comical duo Bread and Butter will return again to provide live, fun street theatre for all the family.

Coun Cathy Scott cabinet Member for place said: “The Homemade Festival will bring together, in one place, a brilliant choice of things to buy, new things to try and great things to learn in our demonstrations.’

“I hope that as last year the festival will create a vibrant, electric atmosphere in Dewsbury town centre and will attract people young and old from across the region. I am very pleased and proud to be officially opening the festival.”

The Homemade Festival takes place between 11am and 4pm on November 9.
