TEN primary schools in Spen have come together in a formal partnership.
At the launch at Howard Park Community School, Cleckheaton, headteachers and chairs of governing bodies signed a memorandum of understanding with the overall objective to educate and nurture through co-operation.
Each school was presented with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion by Kirklees assistant director of Learning John Edwards.
Headteacher of East Bierley, Marcus Newby said: “The group of schools has always worked incredibly well, this partnership now formalises the joint aspiration to further develop educational provision in the area.
“With activities such as our master’s programme for middle leaders’ in association with Leeds Met University, the Primary Parliament and exciting transition projects we will surely go from strength to strength.”
The schools involved are: Birkenshaw, East Bierley, Heaton Avenue, Hightown, High Bank, Howard Park, Gomersal, Gomersal St Mary’s, Scholes Village and Whitechapel – most of which are affected by the re-organisation to two tier schools from September in the Whitcliffe Mount pyramid of schools.
