SPEN MP Mike Wood swapped Question Time for milk time when he dropped in the Birkenshaw village playgroup this week.
Mr Wood gave up his parliamentary duties to become honorary milk monitor for the children as part of World School Milk Day. The playgroup, which meets at the village community hall, was just one of thousands of schools and playgroups in more than 40 countries taking part in celebrations encouraging children to drink milk.
Mr Wood served up the drinks during milk time and sat and chatted with the children and staff.
In the UK, school milk is free for children in day-care or primary education under the age of five, and subsidised for school students aged five to eleven and distributed by the children to their peers, encouraging responsibility, independence and manners.
It is also important for building healthy bones and teeth. World School Milk Day is celebrated globally on September 28.
