Heckmondwike’s Top Model hopeful was celebrating last night when she was picked to travel to Barbados.
Emma Ward, 20, who is competing in Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, was selected with five other girls to fly to the Caribbean island for a photoshoot.
She said: “I was scared I wouldn’t be able to go to Barbados but I’m so excited about it now. I felt like it was either me or Holly who wouldn’t get to go as the others are all really strong and I really wanted to go! The competition is going well; it’s a bit of a whirlwind. People aren’t really taking to me much on social media – people are saying I’m ugly and I can’t do it!
“I was expecting it so I am not too bothered, but I didn’t think it would be as much as this! But the judges’ comments have been good. Watching it at home is very different to how it actually is. It’s edited and they keep showing me complaining about my job, but I didn’t mention it that much and I don’t hate it!”
Last week Emma had to pose with a snake which took a liking to her hairspray.
She said: “I am not scared of snakes so I thought it was going to be okay, but the snake was hissing all over me. When it was right up to my face it was hissing and I was so scared. They were saying, ‘you can’t have a photoshoot with a snake in your hair’! At the end I settled into it and calmed down a bit.”
Emma said after a nervy start she had settled into the competition.
“At first I hardly spoke to anyone but now I’m coming out of myself. I’m more confident now and I feel like I can go further.”
But the judges were really impressed with Emma’s picture. Elle MacPherson said: “For me this is the picture of the week. I don’t think she has ever looked as beautiful.”
Meanwhile, Batley’s Saffron Williams was eliminated from the competition in last week’s episode. She said: “I was so upset to leave and all I could think about was the girls in the house and what they were going to do next. I’d do it all again if I could.”
