Ewe gotta be kidding me! Lamb born early

A surprise Christmas gift arrived at Brecks Farm in Gomersal when Minty the sheep birthed a lamb.

Farmer Hilary Peel said the male Zwarbtle cross breed was born in the early hours of Saturday, December 19 – the ewe’s second offspring this year, which is an unusual occurrence.

And Mrs Peel’s grandchildren Tom Goodyear, five, and William Ellis, two, decided upon an appropriate name for the new-born – Joseph.

“They are really pleased – they love it when the lambs come,” said Mrs Peel. “It’s a good, strong, single lamb.”

Minty, which has been reared to become a pet at the Moor Lane farm, usually only breeds in February.

Tom and William will learn how to bottle feed the next lamb in the new year.
