Owner Brian Cartwright had only bought the parrot two days earlier.

He said: “My dog was going barmy so I opened the door and he ran to the shed at the back. By the time I got there they had been in and taken about 60 birds.

“I had only had the parrot two days – it was only a baby.

“I am gutted. The same thing happened in June – we also sell fish and somebody stole lots of them.

“The sale of the birds would have kept me going through the winter. It is hard work keeping the business going – I will carry on but it’s worrying.”

Police are investigating the theft. Anyone with information should contact PC 4642 Stead at Spen Valley NPT on the non-emergency number 101.
