Expert on Fr Brown writer’s town visit

One of the world’s leading experts on writer G K Chesterton visited Heckmondwike last week.

Dale Ahlquist, president of the American Chesterton Society, spoke about the author at Holy Spirit Church. The church was funded by Father John O’Connor – the inspiration for G K Chesterton’s famous fictional priest detective Father Brown.

The visit was part of celebrations for the newly-renovated church’s centenary.

Mr Ahlquist said Chesterton was still regarded as one of the world’s most widely respected authors and writers. He said: “He was absolutely accomplished in every literary genre yet he is best known for the Father Brown stories. What a privilege it is to stand in the church of the priest on whom that character is based.”
