THIS is all that remains of the former Eastern Taxis building which has been demolished to make way for a new library and information centre in Heckmondwike.
Workmen moved on to the site at Royle Fold last Tuesday and by Saturday the buildings had been razed to the ground.
It now paves the way for a state-of-the-art library as well as a bus terminus.
Ward councillor Viv Kendrick said the demolition, which was plagued by legal wrangles between the council and the building’s former owners, would be welcomed by people living in the town.
“It is hoped the resulting space will be used as a bus station to relieve congestion on roads in the town centre, and also to accommodate a library and information centre,” she said.
The council now plans to get the new building work under way as soon as possible.
