THE family of a former soldier who died of a fatal lung condition while on a Caribbean holiday is facing a medical bill of thousands of pounds.
Frank Rice, 49, died from pneumonia after falling ill in the Dominican Republic where he was on holiday with his fianceé Dawn Townsend. He suffered from pulmonary fibrosis and was awaiting a lung transplant.
However, he did not declare his illness when he took out travel insurance.
Following his death earlier this month, the family has been hit with a hospital bill of £45,000 for the two weeks he spent in hospital.
Linda Mitchinson, 44, of Listings Lane, Liversedge, is the sister of Mr Rice’s fianceé and is holding two body conditioning classes to help raise some money towards the medical bill.
“Frank was my brother-in-law, even though he and my sister weren’t married, we all want to do our bit to help out. If lots of people can contribute a little bit of money, it can make a huge difference,” she said.
The classes are at UK Workout, Birstall, on November 5 from 11.30am and PJs Gym, Cleckheaton, on November 5 from 10am.
