Detective Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said that a silver Ford Focus, a white Mercedes and a blue Passat were set alight outside the house, before a group of males forced their way inside.

They then threatened the family with baseball bats, caused damage to the house and stole mobile phones and a small amount of cash.

A man, woman and children were in the house at the time, but were not injured in the incident.

The family have only been in the house for a few days and police are investigating the possibility that it could be a case of mistaken identity.
