A family were subjected to a terrifiying attack in their Heckmondwike home last night.

Cars were set alight outside their house before a group of males forced entry into the property and threatened them with baseball bats.

The incident happened at 11pm last night (Thursday) on Sharpe Street.

Detective Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said that a silver Ford Focus, a white Mercedes and a blue Passat were set alight outside the house, before a group of males forced their way inside.

They then threatened the family with baseball bats, caused damage to the house and stole mobile phones and a small amount of cash.

A man, woman and children were in the house at the time, but were not injured in the incident.

The family have only been in the house for a few days and police are investigating the possibility that it could be a case of mistaken identity.

DI Thornes said: “The investigation is in its early stages and I am appealing for witnesses. We should be able to gain more detailed information when the victims have been spoken to via an interpreter.”

Anyone with information should contact DS Gittins at Kirklees CID via 101.
