The family and friends of a much-loved and devoted Cleckheaton man have paid tribute to him after he died aged 77.

Michael John Laffey, referred to by his friends and business colleagues as ML, passed away at home on October 23 after a long traumatic illness lasting more than eight years.

Michael is survived by his wife Angela, and their children Michaela, Matthew and Adrian and grandchildren Charlotte, Melissa and Sofia.

He was a loving brother of Patricia and Maureen, dear brother-in-law, uncle and a respected friend to many.

Michael was born in Huddersfield on December 26 1937. He attended St Patrick’s Catholic School, followed by two years National Service.

Starting his career in sales, Michael joined Consultant Services Group (CSG), employing over 4,000 personnel. Before his retirement in 1998, he held the position of Chief Executive. Angela had the position of Managing Director of Consultant Cleaners Ltd, before retiring in 1999. They will be fondly remembered by their colleagues for their 25 years of corporate responsibility.

Michael had a love of sport, in particular rugby, which he played as a young man in Fartown, boxing, golf and football. He was a staunch, life-long supporter of Huddersfield Town.

During their retirement Michael and Angela enjoyed travelling, visiting and playing many golf courses along the way. Michael was a true gentleman in every way which earned him the respect of his family, friends and colleagues.

Angela has been a tower of strength to Michael throughout their married life and has always ensured he received great love and respect so that his later years were full of dignity and comfort.
