All proceeds will be donated to the Society for the Blind of Dewsbury, Batley and District and the Howland Centre for the Disabled in Dewsbury.

Soceity member Martin Eatherley was delighted with how well the event was supported by the community.

“We had a really good turn out and taking part was such a life changing experience,” he said.

“It is like walking on really hot sand, but once the adrenaline kicks in you are just focused on reaching the end.”

Volunteer Roger Tate added: “It is something to be proud of and at the end you felt like to have just climbed Everest. It is a great confidence boost and after it you feel like you can do anything.”

Kirklees Visual Impairment Network members David Quambry, Martin Webster and Janice Parr also took part.
