A PENSIONER has been left devastated after his cars were torched last Sunday.
John Fascione, 71, of Bath Road, Cleckheaton, was at home at around 9pm on Sunday watching television.
He said: “I opened the door and both cars were on fire. The fire brigade turned up immediately. The fire service said that whoever did this poured petrol all over the top of the two cars and put bangers underneath it.
“I’m amazed that the whole car didn’t blow up. The fires were 15 feet from my house. What if my young granddaughters were here? Or even worse, if they were in the car at the time?”
The two cars targeted in the attack were a Silver Peugeot belonging to Mr Fascione, and a blue Vauxhall corsa belonging to his 23-year-old-son, Joseph.
Witness Andrew Davids, 25, said: “It was about 9pm and I was sitting in my room. I heard a loud noise outside, like a big bang.
“I saw the trees light up and I rushed to the window. I saw two lads going down the road. I went outside and they were at the bottom of the road and they turned around.”
Police are treating the incident as a suspected arson attack, and said an accelerant was used but they could not confirm it was petrol.
