Festival director Donal O’Driscoll has looked at the options to keep Crown of Lights, Heckmondwike, a bustling and free event in face of cuts to its budget from cash-strapped Kirklees Council.

He said: “We can’t keep relying on council funding to make this wonderful summer festival happen again.

“And we can’t rely on donations over the festival weekend. We need the money confirmed before the end of March.”

The fundraising deadline will be 4pm on Sunday March 13.

“We’ve pared down the total cost from £21,000 to £16,000. We’ve secured the wonderful Ska House to finish the festival on the Saturday.

“We’re already well on our way to securing the 25 other brilliant acts to play over the two days.

“All we need now is to reach our target. It’s an all or nothing. If we don’t make the target PayPal and Go Cardless just refund the money to those who pledged.”
