Flat Cap runners brave mud for appeal

Runners from across the district braved mud and rain last night to raise money for the Reporter Series Fund.

The Flat Cap Five, organised by Dewsbury Road Runners member Tony Audsley, was expected to attract as many as 200 participants and raise hundreds for our appeal.

The race, now in its second year, covers a five mile scenic route which finishes at the Leggers Inn at Savile Town Wharf, Dewsbury.

Five Reporter Series journalists were among those taking on the challenge.

Richard Beecham, Joe Cooper and Jamie Presland were tackling the course for the first time, while Lauren Ballinger and Georgina Morris hoped to improve on their time of 1:02:24 in 2012.

Prizes were to be presented in various race categories as well as for the best flat cap.
