The Terriers’ transfer target was left out of the Leicester City squad that beat Hull City on Saturday.

The former Leeds United forward came close to moving to the John Smith’s Stadium in the summer only for a loan deal to collapse with just five minutes of the transfer window remaining.

Beckford started the first three games for Leicester this season but since then had been an unused substitute.

Meanwhile Town boss Simon Grayson is urging his players to adopt the Blackpool work ethic ahead of his side’s trip to Bloomfield Road tonight (Monday).

Grayson, making a return to the club where he spent six years as player and boss, said Blackpool had a fantastic way of playing and a team ethic which was very strong, which he hoped to emulate at Huddersfield.

And Bradford City continued their excellent start to the season with a 2-0 win over Oxford United.

Gary Jones set up both goals as City won their third game in eight days as the Bantams broke their winless streak away from home.

In the Premiership, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers criticised referee Mark Halsey after two questionable decisions in his side’s 2-1 home loss to Manchester United. On an emotional afternoon which saw 96 balloons released in tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough Disaster, Rodgers accused Halsey of playing a pivotal role in the game after sending off Jonjo Shelvey then awarding United a highly questionable penalty.

And Roberto Mancini has challenged his Manchester City players to forget about last season’s title win and instead concentrate on improving their form.

The Italian saw his side throw away a one-goal lead to draw 1-1 with Arsenal on Sunday.

City have won only two of their five Premier League matches this season and have yet to keep a clean sheet.
