The event will be held at the Roadhouse in Dewsbury on December 8 and is one in a series of performances by lead singer of rock band The Virginmarys, Ally Dickaty.

The idea came about when Ally, whose band have performed with Slash and the Foofighters, posted a video on Facebook asking for help to put on a series of performances promoting food bank awareness.

Nina Edwards, who is a fan of the band, saw the video and contacted her brother Matt Longley and friend Sarah Cowburn to see if they could help in some way.

As well as Ally Dickaty, local musician Chris Martin will also be performing.

The event is free and tickets are given in exchange for a bag of shopping which will be handed over to food banks from Dewsbury and Batley on the night.

Matt said: “Christmas is a tight time for a lot of people and is a particularly busy time for food banks.

“Not everyone knows food banks are there so this is a good way to raise awareness.”

Ally will be performing six other gigs throughout the beginning of December up and down the country.
