Frontier premiere a success

Pride of Place – A Day to Remember had its first showing at the Frontier, Bradford Road, on Remembrance Sunday.

Simon Roadnight took on the project with friends Jason Darrington and Simon Crabtree because he was fed up with people moaning about the town.

Mr Roadnight, 44, of Mortimer Street, said: “It was brilliant beyond anything we could have imagined.

“I’m being blitzed with requests for DVDs! It was amazing. Looking around the room proved everything that I set out to achieve – that there is still pride of place in Batley.”

Simon came up with around 60 questions about the town he wanted answering by his 20 or so interviewees – young and old characters from Batley and Birstall.

The makers also visited a variety of landmarks as well as streets old and new to find the town’s hidden gems.

Proceeds from the premiere will go towards Kirkwood Hospice and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, though it is not known yet exactly how much was raised.

Simon thanked everyone who was involved and said the project had grown bigger than he ever thought possible.
