Big-hearted golfers have taken to the fairway to raise money for a cancer charity.

East Bierley Golf Club donated their course for a golf day, sponsored by Birkenshaw’s Park House Healthcare, whose managing director Stephen Owens is a club member.

More than 80 players took part in the event, and extra support came from other club members, local organisations and shops which sponsored tees and donated prizes.

In addition, 2012 club captain Steven Goddard donated money he raised through various events during his year of office.

Now the total of £3,300 has been presented to Marie Curie Cancer Care to help it continue its vital work supporting patients and their families.

The money was handed over by Jan Kudelnitzky, who chairs the club’s charity committee, Steven Goddard, and representatives of the charity committee and Park House Healthcare.

Jan said: “We chose Marie Curie Cancer Care because we are aware of the key support that they provide to patients and their families. A number of our members have personal experience of the very valuable services and support that is available and we wished to acknowledge this in a small way through our donation to enable the valuable work to continue.”

Lucy Burnett, from the charity said: “We’d like to thank East Bierley Golf Club for supporting such a fantastic event, and also the Charity Committee for all their hard work, the golfers and companies for getting involved and for presenting us with such a generous donation.”
