With the festive season fast approaching we’ve pulled together a guide to the best Christmas markets in Yorkshire.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt

When: November 13 - December 20

Where: Millennium Square, Leeds City Centre

This is one of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK, with traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, Christmas carousel rides and twinkling colourful lights all creating a unique continental style festive atmosphere in the heart of Leeds city centre. Set in the stylish civic setting of the award winning Millennium Square, Christkindelmarkt attracts many hundred thousands of visitors to Leeds each year and forms an integral part of the city’s annual events programme.

When: Saturday November 28, 10am – 5pm and Sunday November 29, 10am – 4pm

The Victorian Christmas Festival boasts over 80 stalls full of locally produced foods and crafts. There will be entertainment with Christmas Carols being sung by local school choirs, mulled wine, roast chestnuts and street entertainers. Saturday’s Market will draw to a close with a christmas light switch on and community carol singing with a special visit by Father Christmas in a Horse Drawn Carriage pulled by two white shire horses.

Halifax

When: Saturday November 28, 10am - 6pm

Where: The Woolshops

The Woolshops brings a special one-off Christmas Market to the cobbles between on the same day as the Halifax Christmas Lights Switch On, boasting plenty of food and craft stalls. Father Christmas himself will make an appearance before the Christmas Lights are switched on.

Wakefield The Hepworth

When: Saturday November 21 and November 22

Ranked as one of Britain’s best Christmas markets by the Guardian this popular Christmas market returns to the Calder building next to the main gallery for this festive season.

The market will boast arts and crafts stalls selling beautiful ceramics, unique prints and handmade jewellery.

Harrogate Christmas market?

When: Thursday 19 - Sunday 22 November, 10am - 8pm Thursday - Saturday and 10am - 5pm Sunday

Where: Montpellier Stray

Held on The Stray in the historic Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate town centre, this four-day festive market will be filled with high quality Yorkshire and Harrogate products. This year it is expected to have over 190 stalls selling everything from Yorkshire cheeses and chutneys to handmade gifts and Christmas decorations. Santa will be in his grotto with real reindeer.

York St Nicholas Christmas Fair

When: Thursday November 19 - Wednesday December 23 2015

Where: Parliament Square, York City Centre

St Nicholas Fair, one of the most popular Christmas markets in the UK, has been given a tinselly twist for 2015. Snug wooden chalets line the street selling festive food and gifts.

Whitby Christmas Market

When:Friday November 27 - Monday November 30

Where: Endeavour Wharf Car Park, Whitby,

Whitby’s second Christmas Market will take place on Endeavour Wharf in the view of Whitby’s famous Abbey and Swing Bridge. The market features the Whitby’s iconic beach huts with stalls from independent traders, artists, crafts people, hot food stalls and of course, a bar selling mulled wine.

Sheffield Christmas Market

When: Friday November 20 - Thursday December 24

Where: Fargate, Sheffield

Traditional wooden cabins will offer a huge choice of seasonal goodies. Santa will be meeting the children of Sheffield in his very own Lapland cabin. The market will be open daily from 10am to 6pm (8pm on Wednesdays) until Christmas Eve.
