If you can handle this two foot-long hotdog, smothered with layers of cheese, barbecued pulled pork and beer-battered onion rings, along with a huge portion of homemade chips and a chili side salad, then you could earn yourself a place on the wall of fame in Claire’s Kitchen.

Claire Batley, who runs the kitchen, is offering a free meal to the hungry customer who can finish the Newfoundland Dog in the fastest time throughout September.

Claire, 32, has been based in the kitchen at The Plough in Shill Bank Lane for five weeks after turning her love of food from a hobby into a business.

“For one person to take this on is really quite brave,” said Claire. “It’s normally meant as a sharer dish for three of four people.”

The artery-busting meal crams in more than 1,500 calories.

“We’ve had a lot of lads from Mirfield wanting to give it a go,” Claire added. “And people have been signing up from Leeds and Huddersfield.”

Mum of two Claire, of Ravensthorpe, worked in catering and hospitality for 12 years before opening her own kitchen at The Plough.

She has devised a menu which also includes peri peri chicken and a vegetarian chili so hot it comes with a health warning. The only other person that knows her secret recipe for her burgers and pulled pork is daughter Hannah, 8, who loves to help out.

Tickets, £20, available every weekday evening this month, but seating is limited.
