Stretching emergency services

EMERGENCY services will be at full stretch this weekend – when they take part in tough workouts at Spen Pool and Fitness Complex.

The pool is holding an open weekend on Saturday and Sunday, when all paramedics, police officers, firefighters and NHS staff can enjoy a swim, a workout in the gym or a fitness class.

They can also bring along a friend and the sessions will be free.

Fitness manager Melanie Woodhouse said: “We wanted to give our emergency service and health workers the chance to come in and try out what we have on offer.

“It’s very important to be fit and healthy if you work in any of these stressful frontline services and regular exercise and time for relaxation is key to that. We can offer both here! We hope as many people as possible take part in the open weekend and bring a friend too.”

If they join the KAL membership scheme during October, which includes swimming, classes and gym, they pay no joining fee. The deal is open to all fire, ambulance, police and NHS staff but an ID card must be produced.

To book a class call 01274 335145. Classes are: Saturday – Zumba, 9am–9.45am; Step, 9.45am-10.30am: Sunday – fitness yoga, 9.15-10.15am, studio cycling, 9.30am–10.15am; Boot camp, 10.15am–11.30am.
