Heckmondwike Crown of Lights Music Festival will again receive funding from the council, but fears have been raised about its future.

Organiser Donal O’Driscoll said: “Heckyfest, as most people call it, has become such a major feature on the social calendar for many local people now. It’s a bit scary really. We’ve created something that has become so popular. It’s very family friendly with plenty of kids entertainment.”

But he was concerned about the future of the event and said the council may not continue to fund it in future years.

He said: “However, as grateful as I am yet again to Kirklees Council for providing the essential funding, we have to assume this will be the last year they can fund it. The challenge now is to get potential sponsors to come along and see the festival for themselves this July so they can see how popular the event is and how good it would be to support it in future years.”

Heckmondwike Crown of Lights Music Festival will take place at Green Park, on June 19 from 11am-10pm. Entry is free.
