His gift to her was out of this world!

YOU will have to go a long way to beat Graham Pickles’ idea for a Christmas gift.

Just over 250,000 miles in fact.

The Dewsbury landlord stunned his partner with a surprise which left her starry-eyed – an acre of land on the moon.

And now Jane Bentley is returning the favour by buying Graham a telescope so they can gaze at their lunar land – some quarter of a million miles away together.

“We want to make sure there are no squatters on our patch,” said Graham, 52, who, with Jane, runs the Shoulder of Mutton in Briestfield.

Graham bought the moon-land for last year’s Christmas gift to Jane, 40. And he waited for a clear night with a full moon before handing it over.

He paid £20 for a framed certificate which confirms him as a lunar landowner. In the 1960s, an American claimed rights to all the planets and their moons and he then sells on parts.

Graham and Jane took over the Shoulder of Mutton in September. And because of his musical pedigree, as lead singer with The Muldoon Brothers, customers are also seeing stars.

Graham is friends with actors Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts from Coronation Street) and Alun Lewis (Vic Windsor in Emmerdale) and both join him at the pub for music sessions, along with Black Lace.

And what about Jane’s reaction to all this: “I am over the moon.”
