a SCHOOLGIRL with dreams of becoming a fashion designer has beaten thousands of teenagers to a place in the semi-finals of a national teen pageant.
Hollie Owens, 15, entered the Teen Queen UK pageant after being approached while out shopping at the Clothes Show in Birmingham.
Hollie, from Birkenshaw, entered the competition and went on to wow judges in London last month with a photoshoot.
Now her picture is online for a public voting competiton to decide the Teen Princess title.
Hollie said: “I entered not really thinking anything of it.
“I’d like to be a fashion designer, which is why I took textiles at school.
“My family have all been voting for me, I’d be really, really happy if I got to the final.”
If Hollie receives enough votes she will go through to the final in London where she will learn how to do a fashion show on a catwalk.
She fought her way through the heats while studying for her GCSEs at Whitcliffe Mount in Cleckheaton.
Hollie also works part time at healthcare equipment company Park House Healthcare, Birkenshaw.
Pauline Towey, Park House management services director, said: “Hollie initially came to us on a two week work placement from school and impressed us so much that she now works part-time for us after school and during her school holidays.
“We are very proud of Hollie and her mature approach to everything that she does – since joining the company she has continued to impress.
“Hollie is a shining example of how any bright young teenager, with hard work and determination can achieve whatever they set out to.”
