The cash, which amounted to £24,526, was raised through the company donating €1 to Save the Children and UNICEF each time a customer bought a stuffed toy.

The money, raised October 27, 2014-January 3, 2015, is part of a nationwide total of €550,000, which will help give children in some of the poorest parts of the world educational material, teacher training and a safe place to learn.

Birstall store manager Scott Renshaw said: “We are so grateful to our customers for their continued support of the Soft Toys for Education Campaign, and we’re delighted with the amount of money we’ve managed to raise as well as the additional toys we’ve been able to give to Batley Food Bank.

“At Ikea, we see children as the most important people in the world. We believe every child has the right to a healthy, secure childhood and access to quality education, no matter where in the world they live.”
