Improvements made at school

Batley Business and Enterprise College was criticised in a report published in January after an October inspection.

One of the main problems Ofsted found was that the levels of teaching were inconsistent, and this particular area was rated as inadequate.

But after an interim inspection last month, inspector Chris Smith wrote: “The headteacher has a very clear understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the college and had put in place plans to address the areas for improvement. Weaker teaching is being addressed through robust processes.” There was no longer any inadequate teaching, he said.

The inspector added a set of ‘non-negotiables’ has been introduced to raise teachers’ expectations in the area of training and development.

January’s report raised concerns that BBEC’s work to keep pupils safe required improvement. After the interim inpection, Chris Smith wrote: “This would be strengthened by the addition of an annual safeguarding audit.”

But the inspector confirmed the school’s improvement plan was fit for purpose.
