ONE in three children in the Spen Valley is obese or overweight, according to a report in the health of our towns.

The shocking figures show that Spen has the highest obesity rate for children in the whole of Kirklees, with one in nine – or 11 per cent – of all four and five-year-olds tipping the scales at dangerous levels.

A further 12 per cent of reception age children are classed as overweight.

THE three main political parties in Kirklees have united against plans to change our constituency boundaries.

The leaders of Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrats put a joint motion forward at Wednesday’s council meeting, calling for the Boundary Commission for England to look again at the plans.

Cleckheaton staffers rolled up their sleeves and lathered up dozens of motors to raise money for the National Firefighters’ Charity. They even stripped off to wash one woman’s car in return for a big donation!
