It’s Thai-me for a new taste of Asia in town!

SukanThai, a cafe and takeaway, opened this month in Albion Street, creating five jobs.

The business is being run by Kiyara A-roonchai, who moved to England when she was a child, named the restaurant after her 90-year-old grandmother.

She said: “I’ve always had a passion for food and love cooking for my friends and family so when this lovely little shop came empty it seemed like an ideal opportunity to turn one of my dreams into reality.

“The name SukanThai came from my grandmother, whose name spelt in English is Sukantha. She is in her 90s now and I wanted to dedicate this little cafe and takeaway to her. Hopefully, she will be proud of what I have achieved.

The new eatery, which created four staff jobs and a delivery driver job, is located at the site of the former Peppermint Pig gift shop.

The gift shop moved to a larger unit across the road.

A major refurbishment project was carried out at the cafe and it includes and open plan space to create an authentic Thai kitchen.

Food is freshly prepared there are gluten free and vegetarian dishes.

The cafe is open from noon-3pm and 4.30-8.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday.

On Wednesdays it is open from noon-4pm and the cafe is closed on Sundays.
