Jack’s making waves in the medical world

A young scientist from Dewsbury has received a grant from the Excel scholarship to carry out pioneering research.

Twenty-year-old Jack Helliwell has become one of two budding boffins to get a share of £30,000 to continue scientific research projects.

Jack is researching new methods of treating leg ulcers by using pig skin placed on the ulcer to help regenerate new healthier cells.

Jack, who studies at Leeds University with fellow recipient Chris Jones, said: “I know in the future I want to continue with my interest in medical research, but I also want to pursue a career in surgery”.
