The £4m three-storey Oak Park Care Home will be Darrington Healthcare’s third care home in Yorkshire, and stands on the site of a former local authority care home and council offices at the junction of Walnut Lane and Chickenley Lane.

Oak Park will offer 66 places to residents needing residential, dementia or nursing care and will feature large en-suite bedrooms many with showers, a café, bar, cinema room and a hair and beauty salon, all designed by care home experts Newcastle-based Alston Murphy architects.

Darrington Healthcare managing director Eric Dixon believes the home will offer good quality jobs and the best care facilities in the area. He said: “Although we are spending a great deal of money on the design and interior of the home, it will be the nurses, care assistants and admin team who make it a real home which is why we only recruit people who genuinely want to work in the care sector.

Residents and families from our other care homes in Doncaster and Pontefract frequently praise our staff for their patience, warmth and empathy and we want to maintain that trend as we start to recruit for our new care home in Chickenley.

“Having the right team in place and supporting them with a good benefits package, a cheerful working environment and continuous training are key to underpinning the happiness and well-being of our residents, which is why it’s so important to recruit the right people.

“Our staff work as a team with the resident, their family and health professionals to deliver the right care and support to each person, and we aim to make Oak Park the heart of the local community, where families are involved in how their loved ones are cared for as well as a place where the welcome is warm and the emphasis is on first class care and quality of life.

“Filling our nursing positions is the first step in staffing the home, which opens in Spring 2016 and will eventually create more than 60 full and part time nursing, care and administration roles for people of the area.”
