Workers at a Cleckheaton debt collection firm could learn if they have lost their jobs days before Christmas.
More than 200 jobs will go from the town after The Lewis Group announced that it would be shutting its Hunsworth Lane site.
It began consulting the 226 full-time staff who work at its offices in Lawrence House on November 15.
And with the process expected to last around a month, they will learn their fate as they prepare for Christmas.
The Lewis Group was bought by Swedish firm Hoist Finance in August.
A Hoist spokesman said it had originally planned to keep the Cleckheaton base open.
“What has become evident since then is that the scale of operational issues are such that they had to review the decision to stay in Cleckheaton,” he said.
“To keep the centre in Cleckheaton is not financially viable.”
Some staff have been offered the chance to relocate to Hoist’s Manchester office, but the firm said redundancies were unavoidable.
The spokesman said no final decisions had been made so it was not possible to say how many posts would go.
He said: “We are also in discussion with similar organisations in the area who we know to be recruiting in order to minimise the impact of redundancies.”
