WRECKED CAR The car involved in last Saturday's incident.

This wrecked car left onlookers shocked and cars damaged, after it was driven wildly along Spenborough’s busiest roads on Saturday afternoon, witnesses said.

This dramatic picture was sent to the Guardian by a reader who caught the moment after he saw the car clip a kerb and the driver lose control and hit two stationary cars.

It was there that a citizen’s arrest was made and the young woman driver, who had got out of the car, was handed over to police.

Officers told the Guardian the suspect was uninsured and only held a provisional licence.

Witnesses said the car, which had no rear screen, windows missing and was scraped and battered, was being driven at the junction of Bradford Road and Huddersfield Road on the Heckmondwike Liversedge border at about 2.30pm on Saturday.

Police are still investigating but have confirmed that a 23 year old woman has been arrested and bailed

pending further enquiries. She is also being quizzed in connection with a robbery.

They confirmed that at the scene of the accident she was detained by a witness and arrested

when a police inspector arrived.

A spokesman added: “There are some further enquiries to complete with regard to the circumstances surrounding how she came to be in possession of the vehicle, which belongs to a male she shares her address with.”
