The Friends of Mirfield Library group wants people in the town to be more active in saving library services for themselves and future generations.

Kirklees Council released plans to close all bar two libraries in its remit but Friends secretary Jenny Tomlinson Walsh said it would not close without a fight.

She said: “Mirfield Library is the hub of the town – it is home to a vast array of activities, groups, advice and information. It also has an excellent selection of books for all ages and interests.”

“The library truly serves the entire community from toddler groups to advice and help for the elderly.

Residents of Mirfield should consider what direct effect the loss of the library would have on their lives. To close Mirfield Library would be to take the beating heart out of the town

A meeting was held by the group on March 11 at Mirfield Library and The Friends of Mirfield Library group was officially created.

The group’s next meeting is on Wednesday April 8, 6.15pm at the Library.
