Thousands of people packed into Cleckheaton on Saturday for the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Stalls, music, street entertainment, a funfair and a Santa’s grotto were enjoyed by the crowds throughout the 12-hour festivities, with Father Christmas officially switching on the lights in Savoy Square – and there was even a snow machine to ensure everyone got into the true festive spirit.
The traditional parade featuring schools, Santa, and even a donkey heralded the official switch-on, making its way through the town, and after the town centre was lit up, so too were the skies with a fantastic fireworks display. Spenborough Chamber of Trade president Viv Laycock said: “It was an amazing day.
“Everything was bang on time and we are so glad so many people came. Hopefully this will help put Cleckheaton back on the map! The fireworks were a complete surprise to me and I was so thrilled. The looks on the children’s faces were priceless, and that’s what you do it for at the end of the day.”
