Lions’ pride at club concert

A retro concert led by a Frank Sinatra tribute singer has been organised as part of a day of events to help launch a new volunteer club.

Organiser Andrew Hamilton hopes to attract volunteers to join a new Dewsbury and Spen Valley Lions Club through a concert and information session in Dewsbury tomorrow.

Volunteer-led Lions Clubs support worthy causes by arranging fundraising events. Morley and Huddersfield have clubs but North Kirklees has not had one for around 20 years.

The concert will feature performances from tribute act Phil Fryer, who has sung at high-profile events including ITV presenter Holly Willoughby’s wedding.

Mr Hamilton, of Old Bank Road, Dewsbury, said: “I’m proud because it’s been three months of work and if we get at least 20 people to get the club going it will all be worth it.

“I have seen Phil perform before and he is very good so we are glad to have him at the concert.”

Mr Hamilton is currently a member of Morley and District Lions Club, who have funded the event.

He will lead a session to give people more information about Lions clubs before the event at 11am-3pm at Dewsbury Library.

The concert will take place at Dewsbury Town Hall from 7pm on Saturday.
