Liversedge lad jets off to Spain after water ski win

A talented eight-year-old Liversedge lad trounced his competition during a water skiing showdown and won a trip to Spain.

Daniel Marshall, of Church Road, Roberttown, represented the Yorkshire and Humberside Sharks at this year’s British Water Ski and Wakeboard Cutting Edge contest in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, on August 23 and 24.

Seeing off the efforts of skiers aged up to 16 years, Daniel won rounds in barefoot skiing, kneeboarding and also came third in wakeboarding.

He was crowned top overall competitor and will jet off to the Xtreme Gene camp near Seville, Spain, in October for expert training.

Dad Glenn, 50, said: “I have to confess to having a tear in my eye when he won. I was so proud.

“He did tricks that I didn’t even know he could do. The crowd were going wild. If you could see his face – he was a bit overcome.”

The Spanish camp hosts some of the world’s most talented national teams and coaches.

“What the future will hold, who knows?” said Glenn. “This trip to Spain is going to be a great progression. I just cannot teach him anymore and we need that input.”
