A WOMAN who shed almost half her body weight in 12 months after watching her father suffer with heart disease has been named one of Britain’s slimmers of the year.

Debbie Plumpton, 43, was hailed Super Fit Slimmer of the Year Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Magazine annual awards after shedding 7st in just over a year.

Debbie, who used to weigh 16st 5lb and was a size 24, had been overweight for more than 20 years.

But seeing her father suffer from cardiac disease, and watching him deteriorate for two years, was a wake-up call, and she realised she did not want to put her two children through the same anguish of seeing a parent suffer.

She said: “I knew cardiac disease was hereditary and wanted to minimise my own risk and become healthier for the sake of my boys.”

When she struggled to climb Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales on a family walk, stopping every 200 yards to catch her breath, she knew she had to change her lifestyle. Since losing 7st, Debbie, of Liversedge, has now completed the walk again in half the time. She has gone from a size 24 to size eight.

She joined a Rosemary Conley club in April 2011 and by December that year had lost 5st. That Christmas, Debbie’s father passed away, but she said she was relieved that he had seen her lose the majority of her weight. “He was so proud of me,” she added.

Debbie reached her goal weight last May and is now a fitness fanatic.

She said: “I started off attending one class a week and as I got into the swing of it I began to exercise at home, doing Wii Fit and following Rosemary’s videos, which are amazing.

“I love exercise now and it’s so much a part of my life. I get up at 5.45am each morning and do around 35-40 minutes of exercise which has helped me to tone up. Since exercising my figure has been completely transformed and I love being fit and active!”

Debbie was presented with her award and £1,000 cash by Rosemary herself at a ceremony in London.
