Liz’s Diary

Throughout the week, we will be keeping you up to date with Liz Robinson – Cleckheaton’s very own Lizzie Armitstead – who is currently on her way round the country on a 760-mile bike-ride to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. Here is an exclusive look at Liz’s gruelling journey.

Day ONE

Today I rode 59 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We were steady away and had a nice little warm up circuit. Thankfully, we had dry weather all day with just a few little hills.

DAY TWO

killer day, killer hills, fantastic views! This was a long day – I was last over the line and had one incident of falling off the bike! The hill was too steep, and my gear change was not quick enough with my feet clipped in! Later on, I had a puncture, and had to get on a pick-up van for five miles to the last rest stop as I was too far behind due to the puncture. I was glad of few minutes comfort due to length of time up and riding early. That’s 110 miles done already. Bed time now – I have a 6.30am start in the morning, with 105 miles with hills!
