Loved ones remembered

Families will come together to remember loved ones when Kirkwood Hospice holds its annual Light up a Life celebrations.

Two events will be held towards the end of the year, during which trees will be illuminated. Each light represents the memory of a special person who has died or cannot be at home.

Around 1,000 people are expected to turn out for the celebrations, which feature readings and music beforehand.

A Book of Lights, recording all the names of those honoured in the ceremony, will be displayed throughout.

Natalie Schofield, whose father was cared for at the hospice’s in-patient unit, said: “Kirkwood looked after my dad, John, during the final two weeks of his life after he had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.”

“Everything was so personal. He wasn’t just another patient. The nurses really got to know him and helped him to face the end of his life with dignity and with peace in his heart. For that, I shall be forever grateful.”

The events take place in Kirkwood’s grounds on Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7 at 4.30pm. A service will also be held at Dewsbury’s Longcauseway Church on December 13 from noon.

If you would like to attended, call 01484 557 911 or e-mail [email protected]. The events are supported by Wheawill and Sudworth accountants, of Huddersfield.
