Loyal service recognised a Mirfield family firm

Employees from John Cotton Group, based on Huddersfield Road, were invited to a special awards ceremony on November 8 which recognised ten staff members that have been with the company for 25 years.

John Cotton, chairman said: “We have a number of staff members who have worked with us for 25 years and we felt it was really important to take some time to appreciate the contribution they have made to the business. It really was a true celebration.”

Staff received a paid holiday, a certificate of service, a designer watch and a meal voucher to the value of £100.

Beverley Clegg, 48, of Mirfield, works as a part time general operative in the factory - which has become a family affair.

She met her husband Steven at the company and her twin sister Sharon Illingworth, who started as a machinist, is now a factory supervisor.

She said: “We’re a close knit company and people tend to stick around a long time, especially when we’re surrounded by our family and friends.

“It’s a nice feeling knowing you’re appreciated and my family are all very proud of me.

“I’ve already told work that I’d like to use my meal vouchers at 315 Bar and Restaurant in Lepton, it’s where I married Steven three years ago, it will be a nice anniversary for us because we met at the factory too.”

Other staff members honoured at the awards include, Kulwant Kaur, Dorothy Fellowes, John Cock, Abdul Qayum, Shabbir Ahmed, Thomas Fellowes, Earle Whyte, Stephen Midgley and Andrew Garside. Mr Cotton added: “The business has evolved hugely since 1916, and although we’re more technologically advanced, we still have lots of staff on the factory floor. We’re now looking forward to gearing up for our 100 year anniversary in 2016 and celebrating more staff service milestones as the company enters its next century.”
